Visiting Ayios Sozomenos

The Pandoteira project organized an evening nature walk at Agios Sozomenos, on September 25, 2026.

The aim of this nature walk was for people to become acquainted with the area, which belongs to the Natura 2000 network, learn about the conservation and nature protection actions taking place there within the framework of the project, as well as observe little owls and bats.

Set against the backdrop of the abandoned village of Agios Sozomenos, an impressive ecosystem unfolds, where rugged cliffs embrace a rich biodiversity. It is a place where nature and history coexist in harmony, creating a captivating setting.

An added bonus of the event was the opportunity to observe the bird ringing and release of a little owl and a common kestrel. Both birds had spent some time in the Rehabilitation Center of the Game and Fauna Service and, having recovered, were ready to be released.
