The 3rd Biogeographical Seminar for the Mediterranean and Black Sea marine biogeographical regions took place on March 12-14, 2024 in Marseille, France. The seminar was organised by the French Ministry of Ecological Transition and the French Biodiversity Agency (OFB).
The primary objective of the seminar was to document the pledges made by the Member States in this marine biogeographical region as part of their commitments under the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. In addition, the seminar provided the opportunity to discuss other issues of common interest related to the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives in the marine environment, with an emphasis on issues related to the management of marine areas of the Natura 2000 network.
A Pandoteira project representative, from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, participated in this seminar, in order to network and exchange experiences with organisations and bodies from abroad.
The specific seminar offered important and targeted experience and exchange of views regarding the creation of pledges by the Member States of the Mediterranean and Black Sea marine biogeographical region. The opportunity was also given to stimulate transnational exchanges of knowledge and experience, as well as to promote a coherent management of the Natura 2000 network at the biogeographical level.
