The Pandoteira project visited the Municipality of Limassol

The Pandoteira project, together with the Municipality of Limassol, organised an event titled: “Natura 2000: Generating awareness among stakeholders”. The event took place on September 27th, 2022, at the Limassol Town Hall and it was designed for the members of the Municipal Council, as well as for the general public.

The event began at 19:00 with an introduction from the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Nicos Nicolaides. Mr. Nicolaides highlighted, among others, the importance of the Natura 2000 network and the various challenges associated with climate change.

Following Mr. Nicolaides’ introduction, participants were introduced to the Pandoteira project, as well as to the importance of the Natura 2000 network. In addition, participants were informed about the different clusters in which the 63 Natura 2000 sites have been grouped through the project. Moreover, specific information was given about the Natura 2000 sites which happen to be in the vicinity of the Limassol Municipality.

At the same time, the Pandoteira project team presented possible opportunities for the involvement and participation of stakeholders and the general public.

Lastly, the Mayor of Limassol, as well as the members of the Municipal Council, expressed their interest in hosting future events within the framework of the Pandoteira project.

This event was led by Terra Cypria-The Cyprus Conservation Foundation, which is the lead partner of Action E2.1: “Set up awareness-raising and information activities for targeted stakeholders” and Task 1: “Systematically inform the stakeholders on the progress made by the project”.
